Thank you for asking about Tymetal Corp. aluminum gates. Tymetal has been the leading manufacturer of aluminum cantilever slide gates for over 25 years. Tymetal is flattered that there are several imitations on the market that attempt to provide an “equal” product, but the attached drawing of Tymetal’s Heavy Duty Cantilever Slide Gate illustrates why “almost equal” is not even close. Please review these superior features and call us (800-328-GATE) if you’d like to learn more of why Tymetal is by far the best, and has 25 years of experience and 1,000’s of references to prove it.
Horizontal top track and top gate frame member:
Tymetal starts with the heaviest track and commercial security gate frame combination in the industry. These 2 components are keyed to fully interlock with each other and also welded to form a 1 piece composite structure. Others often compare their 1 piece track and frame weight to the Tymetal track weight alone, but the size of the Tymetal HD track (2.9 #/ft) and the integrated 3x5 top primary frame member (3.0 lb/ft) is the key to our gate system. This construction method gives you much more aluminum material to support your gate than anyone else in the industry. This is what gives you the solid structure and longevity that Tymetal is famous for.
Bottom gate frame member:
Tymetal uses either 2”x 5” aluminum tube (2 #/ft) on 1 piece gates or a 2”x 5” aluminum channel (2.6 #/ft) on 2 piece gates, again the largest in the industry.
Vertical Gate Frame Members:
Another key structural element to the Tymetal slide gate is the vertical members. Tymetal uses both 2x2 and 1x2 and places many more of them to stiffen the commercial gate system both vertically and laterally. Tymetal commercial security gates have vertical members spaced at not more than 50% of the gate height. Others have single verticals without any intermediates spaced apart up to 100% of the gate height! These design differences make a real difference in gate performance. Please examine the attached layout drawing to plainly see the increased strength and performance of the Tymetal design.
Counterbalance length with full length fabric Tymetal gate counterbalances are a full 50% of the opening width because the extra length increases lateral stiffness by 36% over others typical counterbalance length (40%). Tymetal also provides full length aluminized mesh (to prevent reach through hazards as required by ASTM F2200 for all automatic vehicle gates).
Stainless Steel aircraft cable cross-bracing 3/16 is used throughout the commercial gate panel we don’t skip the counter balance and stainless steel is used to prevent brown out (1/4” galvanized costs less but will brown out over time). Others specify ¼” galvanized to hint that 3/16 is not sufficient. This is simply not true. 3/16 stainless cost more and performs better than ¼” galvanized. Tymetal has 25 years of experience using 3/16” stainless steel cable, building the largest gates in the
Truck Assembly W4 or W8 - both vastly superior in design and materials Tymetal trucks use bearings that are specifically designed for roller application.. The Tymetal bearings have been load tested under continuous duty and subjected to stresses your gate will never see. Tymetal's largest commercial gates get 8 wheels, but our 8 wheel assemblies move independently so all 8 fully support the load. Competitors 8 wheel trucks do not float, and point loading will result in performance inferior to our 4 wheel design.
