Frequently Asked Questions
TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the TCG-4 (M30/K4) Crash Rated Cantilever Slide Gate & TYM-SL4000 Operator System, we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.
What crash certification does the TCG-4 cantilevered slide gate achieve?
The TYMETAL TCG-4 is certified to U.S. Department of State K4 standards, equivalent to ASTM F2656 M30/P1. This rating certifies the gate to stop a 15,000-lb vehicle traveling at 30 mph with a maximum penetration distance of 1 meter beyond the gate face, meeting the baseline hostile vehicle mitigation standard for most government and critical infrastructure facilities.
How does the cantilevered slide design minimize foundation requirements?
The TCG-4 uses a cantilever roller system that supports the gate panel without a bottom track, concentrating the structural load at the support posts rather than requiring a continuous ground-level foundation across the full gate opening. This simplifies civil work and allows the gate to perform in roadway applications where an underground track is not feasible.
What gate spans and opening speeds are standard?
The TCG-4 is available in standard lane widths suitable for single and dual vehicle lanes at government and military access control points. Opening speed is determined by the selected operator system. Contact Tymetal for span and cycle time specifications based on your lane width and operational requirements.
Can the TCG-4 be automated or integrated with hydraulic or electric drive systems?
Yes. The TCG-4 is available with both electromechanical and hydraulic operator systems, including Tymetal’s own operator configurations designed for crash-rated gate applications. The gate supports integration with standard access control devices and can be configured for guard booth operation, remote control, or automated credential-based access.
What inspection and adjustment guidelines follow a collision or heavy usage period?
Following any vehicle impact, the TCG-4 gate panel, roller carriages, support posts, and foundation anchor systems must be inspected by a qualified professional before the gate is returned to service. Routine high-usage inspections should confirm roller alignment, bearing condition, and the integrity of all structural fasteners and welds.
