TCRB-12-EMLA (M50/K12) Electro-Mechanical Crash Rated Beam & Operator System

Product Notes

  • TCRB-12-EMLA closes single clear opening widths up to 22 feet.
  • For larger clear opening widths, the TCRB-12 Hydraulic closes single clear openings up to 24 feet.
  • Custom options are available.

Product Summary

The TCRB-12-EMLA is ASTM F2656-07-M50-P1 certified (equivalent to U.S. Department of State K12).  Will stop a 15,000 pound vehicle traveling at 50 mph within 1 meter.  Components include steel stanchions and an aluminum beam containing proprietary engineered cabling.  Counterweight plates are installed to facilitate manual operation in the event of a power outage.

Features & Benefits

  • Power is electromechanical with a heavy-duty linear actuator operated by an electronic variable motor drive, allowing ramped speed operation.
  • Programmable logic controller (PLC) capable of providing inputs/outputs to the barrier arm actuator and accessories.
  • Hand Crank: A handle attached to the gearbox allows for manual operation in the event of a power outage.
  • Speed: 10 to 12 seconds to open or close.  The Emergency Fash Operation (EFO) feature provides a reduction of 1 second.

Frequently Asked Questions

TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the TCRB-12-EMLA (M50/K12) Electro-Mechanical Crash Rated Beam & Operator System, we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.

What differentiates M50/P1 K12 performance from K4 in force absorption and penetration distance?

The K12 / M50/P1 rating requires the TCRB-12 to stop a 15,000-lb vehicle at 50 mph within 1 meter — compared to K4’s 15,000-lb vehicle at 30 mph. The kinetic energy involved is roughly 10 times greater, requiring the TCRB-12 to use substantially heavier structural components, deeper foundations, and a more robust hydraulic system than K4-rated barrier arms.

What are the environmental ratings (IP and NEMA) for operator and control enclosures?

TYMETAL’s TCRB-12 hydraulic operator and control enclosures are rated for outdoor use in harsh environments. Specific IP and NEMA ratings are provided in the product’s technical documentation. Contact Tymetal for the applicable enclosure rating for your installation environment, particularly for sites with extreme weather, salt air, or high-wash conditions.

What are the recommended inspection intervals after nuisance hits versus certified impacts?

Following a certified crash impact, the TCRB-12 must be taken out of service immediately and inspected by a Tymetal-qualified technician before returning to operation. For minor nuisance contact events, a visual inspection of the beam, operator, and foundation should be performed before the next operational cycle. Tymetal provides post-impact inspection checklists to guide the assessment process.
