TCRB-4-EMLA (M30/K4) Electro-Mechanical Crash Rated Beam & Operator System

Product Notes

  • TCRB-4-EMLA closes single clear opening widths up to 24 feet.
  • For larger clear opening widths, the TCRB-4 Hydraulic closes single clear openings up to 26 feet.
  • Custom options are available.

Product Summary

The TCRB-4-EMLA is ASTM F2656-07-M30-P1 certified (equivalent to U.S. Department of State K4).  Will stop a 15,000 pound vehicle traveling at 30 mph within 1 meter.  Components include steel stanchions and an aluminum beam containing proprietary engineered cabling.  Counterweight plates are installed to facilitate manual operation in the event of a power outage.

Features & Benefits

  • Power is electromechanical with a heavy-duty linear actuator operated by an electronic variable motor drive, allowing ramped speed operation.
  • Programmable logic controller (PLC) capable of providing inputs/outputs to the barrier arm actuator and accessories.
  • Hand Crank: A handle attached to the gearbox allows for manual operation in the event of a power outage.
  • Speed: 10 to 12 seconds to open or close.  The Emergency Fash Operation (EFO) feature provides a reduction of 1 second.

Frequently Asked Questions

TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the TCRB-4-EMLA (M30/K4) Electro-Mechanical Crash Rated Beam & Operator System, we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.

What vehicle impact speed and mass are covered by the M30/P1 K4 rating?

The TCRB-4 K4 / M30/P1 certification confirms the barrier arm will stop a 15,000-lb vehicle traveling at 30 mph within a maximum 1-meter penetration distance. This is the baseline DoS and ASTM K4 standard applied to the majority of government facility, embassy, and critical infrastructure perimeter security projects.

How does the hydraulic operator manage cycle time and duty cycle under continuous use?

TYMETAL’s TCRB-4 hydraulic operator is designed for sustained duty cycle performance, with a power unit and actuator sized to maintain rated cycle times across continuous operation. The hydraulic system’s fluid capacity and thermal characteristics are engineered to prevent overheating under the continuous cycling demands of high-traffic access control points.

What foundation depth and rebar layout are recommended for K4 installations?

TYMETAL provides engineered foundation specifications for the TCRB-4 that include post embedment depth, concrete pad dimensions, and rebar layout designed to achieve M30/P1 K4 certified performance. These specifications must be followed precisely — undersized or improperly reinforced foundations can prevent the installation from achieving its rated crash performance.

Which access-control devices are supported?

The TCRB-4 control system is compatible with card readers, vehicle loop detectors, guard booth controls, keypad systems, and remote operation interfaces. The operator control panel supports standard access control relay outputs and inputs for integration with third-party access management platforms and security management systems.

What post-impact inspection and component replacement steps are specified?

Following a vehicle impact, the barrier arm, hinge system, operator actuator, and foundation must all be inspected by a qualified TYMETAL technician. Deformed arm sections and compromised hinge components must be replaced with Tymetal-specified parts before the barrier is returned to service. The foundation integrity must be verified, as anchor failure may not be visually apparent after a K4-rated impact.
