Product Summary

TYMETAL’s Fortress Heavy Duty Overhead Slide Gate solves closure requirements that are particularly rigorous. Truly a specialty gate, the Heavy Duty Overhead Slide Gate is made to withstand greater than normal stresses in very large openings. Contact us today to discuss this barrier in more detail. We also invite you to request drawings and specifications and take advantage of our extensive in-house resources.

Features & Benefits

Our Overhead Slide Gates have been installed in demanding applications all over the US and Canada. Special features and design improvements, learned from years of experience in extreme high-use environments, reinforce the gate panel in critical areas. The installation method is versatile, as the gate may be hung between three pairs of 4” OD posts with a structural steel support beam or wall mounted with the appropriate support system.

The Heavy Duty Overhead Slide Gate track is fabricated from thick wall aluminum alloy extrusions. The primary members (top and bottom) are rectangular shaped in cross-section with outside vertical members “P” shaped in cross-section.

TYMETAL includes cross bracing of 3/16” minimum diameter stainless steel cable throughout the gate panel to keep the frame members square. Special bottom guide assemblies are included for each side of the gate and we also supplies a minimum of two self-aligning, 4-wheeled, sealed, ball-bearing truck assemblies with each gate.

Frequently Asked Questions

TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the Overhead Slide Gate (Manual Operation), we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.

What structural reinforcements make the Fortress overhead gate ideal for high-security applications?

The TYMETAL Fortress Heavy-Duty Overhead Slide Gate uses a reinforced aluminum frame, heavy-duty trolley, and steel track system built to withstand the demanding operating conditions of correctional facilities, military installations, and industrial security perimeters. The elevated track design protects all moving components from vehicle contact and ground-level interference.

How does the heavy-duty overhead slide design perform under continuous use?

The Fortress overhead gate is built for continuous-duty performance with trolley assemblies, track sections, and drive components selected for sustained high-cycle operation. The overhead configuration eliminates ground-level wear points, contributing to consistent performance and extended service intervals compared to ground-track gate systems in equivalent applications.

Are there anti-ram or crash-test features integrated into the Fortress overhead model?

The Fortress Heavy-Duty Overhead Slide Gate is designed for high-security access control applications. For installations requiring certified crash-rated anti-ram performance, TYMETAL’s dedicated crash-rated gate product lines — including the TCG and TCGR series — are the appropriate selection, as they are independently tested and certified to ASTM F2656 standards.

What gate widths and heights can be custom manufactured?

TYMETAL custom fabricates the Fortress Overhead Slide Gate to project-specific dimensions for non-standard openings including wide industrial and vehicle maintenance facility entrances. Contact Tymetal with your required clear opening width and panel height for a custom configuration and engineering review.

How is the Fortress gate maintained to ensure long-term operational reliability?

Maintenance includes regular trolley wheel and bearing lubrication, track inspection for wear or misalignment, and drive chain or operator system service per the manufacturer’s schedule. The elevated track should be inspected for fastener tightness and structural connection integrity at least annually, with safety device testing performed monthly per UL 325 requirements.
