Features & Benefits

The Fortress Vertical Lift Gate manufactured by TYMETAL can be used anywhere. One of the most significant benefits of this gate system is its space saving design. It provides an ideal solution when there is insufficient space outside the opening for a swing or slide gate to retract without hitting an obstacle.

TYMETAL’s Vertical Lift Gate is engineered to operate flawlessly as a complete system and features a thoughtful design. For example, steel counterweights running inside the vertical support columns balance the gate’s weight. This minimizes stress on the gate and reduces the power demand on the motor.

Additional features include:

  • Heavy W12x53 superstructure
  • Solidly engineered #60 chain drive mechanism, complete with counterweights
  • Engineered footings (including rebar cages and anchor bolts) to ensure smooth and precise up-and-down movement
  • Four truck assemblies to hang the gate panel, with four sealed and permanently lubricated roller bearings traveling inside a smooth aluminum track on each assembly
  • Continuous loop drive system directly connected to the counterweight in each support column to ensure precision operation
  • Crank handle drops out of motor box for manual operation if no power

Frequently Asked Questions

TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the Vertical Lift Gate, we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.

How does a vertical lift gate compare to sliding or swing gates in terms of space efficiency?

TYMETAL vertical lift gates require no lateral clearance for the gate panel or back-clearance tail section — the panel rises directly above the opening within the gate’s structural frame. This makes vertical lift gates the most space-efficient solution for wide or high-security openings at sites where the clearance requirements of cantilever, tracked slide, or swing gate designs cannot be met.

What are the recommended installation requirements for heavy-duty vertical lift gates?

TYMETAL vertical lift gate installations require a reinforced concrete foundation for the vertical lift frame columns, sized for the gate’s structural weight and the site’s wind and seismic loading conditions. The lift frame must be plumb and level to ensure smooth panel travel, and adequate overhead clearance for the fully raised gate panel must be confirmed during the design phase.

Are vertical lift gates compliant with UL 325 and ASTM F2200 standards?

TYMETAL vertical lift gates are designed in accordance with ASTM F2200 and are compatible with UL 325-compliant operator systems and safety devices. Automated installations must include the entrapment protection devices required by UL 325, including obstruction sensors appropriate to the gate’s travel path and installation configuration.

What materials and finishes are used to maximize gate durability and corrosion resistance?

TYMETAL vertical lift gate panels are aluminum, providing inherent corrosion resistance for outdoor and coastal environments. The lifting columns are steel and available in hot-dip galvanizing, ensuring long-term durability and protection against rust throughout the system’s service life.

What is the expected operational lifespan and maintenance cycle for TYMETAL vertical lift gates?

TYMETAL vertical lift gates are built for long service life with proper maintenance. The structural frame and panel are designed for decades of service, with the primary wear components being the lift mechanism, guide rails, and operator system. Routine maintenance including lubrication of all moving components, annual structural inspection, and operator system service per the manufacturer’s schedule will maximize operational lifespan and prevent premature component failure.
