Telescoping Box Frame Roller Gate (Manual Operation)

Product Notes

  • Closes single clear opening widths up to 83’ and double clear openings up to 166’.
  • For larger clear opening widths contact TYMETAL. Clear opening widths for all security gates will vary depending on several factors, including infill options, wind load, and location. Custom widths are available.

Product Summary

The Telescoping Box Frame Roller Gate (US Patent #8,181,689 B2) is a good alternative for sites having limited space on either side of an opening.  The required roll-back space, when in the open position, is 60% to 75% of the clear opening width.  For example, a 60-foot opening would require less than 37 feet of roll-back space when in the open position.

Features & Benefits

  • Stability in high wind conditions, as it utilizes same ground track, roller wheel trolley and stabilizing system as the Box Frame Roller Gate.
  • When in the open position (Parked Length), stores in 60% to 75% of the clear opening width.  Formula: Parked Length = (Clear Opening + 13 feet)/2.

Frequently Asked Questions

TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the Telescoping Box Frame Roller Gate (Manual Operation), we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.

What advantages do telescoping box frame gates provide over standard slide gate designs?

TYMETAL telescoping box frame roller gates divide the gate panel into two or more sections that slide together as the gate opens, reducing the total clearance required on the latch side by up to half. This makes them ideal for wide openings at sites where a full-length cantilever tail section cannot be accommodated due to space constraints or adjacent structures.

How does the telescoping mechanism allow for compact storage and smooth extension?

The telescoping gate panels ride on a shared roller track system, with the secondary panel nesting behind the primary as the gate opens. Precision-engineered rollers and guides keep the panels aligned throughout the travel, preventing binding or misalignment that would impede smooth operation. The system is designed to handle the additional mechanical complexity of multi-panel travel without sacrificing reliability.

What materials and roller assemblies are used to support heavy spans?

TYMETAL telescoping gates use box frame aluminum construction with heavy-duty roller assemblies rated for the combined weight of multiple gate panels. The box frame profile provides high stiffness relative to weight, resisting deflection across the full gate span. Roller bearings are selected for long service life under the continuous load and cycling demands of large gate applications.

Are these gates compliant with ASTM F2200 and UL 325 standards?

TYMETAL telescoping box frame roller gates are designed in accordance with ASTM F2200 specifications for vehicular gate construction and are compatible with UL 325-compliant automated operators and safety systems. Installations should include the entrapment protection devices required by UL 325 for automated vehicular gate systems.

What maintenance procedures are recommended for telescoping gate tracks?

Track channels and roller contact surfaces on telescoping gates should be inspected and cleaned regularly to prevent debris accumulation that can cause binding or uneven wear. Roller bearings should be lubricated per TYMETAL’s schedule, and panel alignment should be checked periodically to ensure the telescoping sections travel smoothly and close squarely without gaps or misalignment.
