Frequently Asked Questions
TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the TCF-M50-P2 (K12), we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.
What crash test rating does TCF M50 P2 K12 satisfy, and what impact speed is included?
The TYMETAL TCF M50 P2 K12 fence is certified to ASTM F2656 M50/K12 standards, confirming it will stop a 15,000-lb vehicle at 50 mph. The P2 penetration classification means the vehicle is stopped within a defined distance beyond the fence face that is slightly greater than the P1 limit, while still meeting the K12 certification threshold.
What foundation and mounting specifications are needed for K12-rated fencing?
K12-rated fence installations require TYMETAL-engineered deep reinforced concrete foundations with post embedment depths, concrete dimensions, and rebar layouts sized for the maximum M50 impact forces. These foundations are substantially more robust than those used for standard or K4-rated fences and must be constructed precisely to TYMETAL’s specifications to maintain certification.
How does it perform in conjunction with adjacent gates and barriers?
The TCF M50 P2 K12 fence is designed to pair with TYMETAL’s K12-rated gate and beam products — including the TCG-12, TCGR-12, and ATCRB-12 — for a uniformly rated K12 perimeter. The fence-to-gate transition details are engineered by TYMETAL to ensure continuity of the certified vehicle impact rating across the full perimeter without structural weak points.
What post-impact inspection and refurbishment routines are recommended?
Following a K12-rated impact event, the affected fence section, posts, and foundations must be taken out of service and inspected by TYMETAL-qualified personnel. All deformed structural members must be replaced with TYMETAL-specified components — field repair of crash-rated structural steel is not acceptable. The adjacent fence sections should also be inspected for load transfer damage.
