Frequently Asked Questions
TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the TCF-M50-P1 (K12), we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.
What crash test rating does the TCF M50 P1 K12 fence achieve?
The TYMETAL TCF M50 P1 K12 fence system is certified to ASTM F2656 M50/P1 and U.S. DoS K12 standards, the highest vehicle impact rating in TYMETAL’s fence product line. This certification confirms the fence will stop a 15,000-lb vehicle traveling at 50 mph within a penetration distance of 1 meter, making it suitable for the most demanding force protection perimeter applications.
How is the fence constructed to resist vehicle impact?
The TCF M50 P1 K12 fence uses heavy structural steel posts embedded in deep reinforced concrete foundations, with the rail and panel system engineered to transfer the full kinetic energy of a K12-rated vehicle strike into the ground. Post spacing, embedment depth, and foundation reinforcement are all specified to achieve certified performance rather than standard fencing practices.
Can this crash-rated fence integrate with security gates or perimeter systems?
Yes. TYMETAL designs the TCF M50 P1 K12 fence to integrate with matching K12-rated gate systems including the TCG-12 cantilever slide gate and TCSG-12 swing gate, creating a uniformly rated perimeter without weak points at access openings. The fence and gate systems share compatible post and foundation systems for consistent installation.
What annual inspection protocols apply?
Annual inspections should verify the structural integrity of all posts, rail connections, and foundation anchors, checking for corrosion, damage, settlement, or loosening of fasteners. Any section exposed to vehicle impact must be inspected and certified before being considered operational. TYMETAL recommends maintaining inspection records to support ongoing compliance documentation.
