Frequently Asked Questions

TYMETAL has been in the perimeter security solutions market since 1985. With more than three decades of experience designing, manufacturing, and installing the TCF-M30-P1 (K4), we have encountered many questions along the way. Explore a few of the common questions we are asked below. If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us by phone at 888-978-4283 or online.

What crash test performance is implied by K4 rating for M30 P1 fencing?

The TYMETAL TCF M30 P1 K4 fence is certified to stop a 15,000-lb vehicle at 30 mph within a maximum 1-meter penetration distance — the P1 class represents the most restrictive penetration limit at the K4 rating level. This makes it appropriate for perimeter installations where minimizing vehicle intrusion distance is important even at the baseline K4 threat level.

How is the P1 structure engineered for impact resilience?

The P1-rated fence structure uses heavier post sections, closer post spacing, and more robust rail-to-post connections than lower-penetration-class designs, allowing it to absorb and redirect vehicle kinetic energy more efficiently without exceeding the 1-meter penetration limit. Foundation embedment depths and reinforcement are correspondingly greater than those required for P2-rated systems.

What anchor and mounting system is required?

The TCF M30 P1 K4 fence requires steel posts embedded in reinforced concrete foundations engineered by TYMETAL to achieve the certified crash performance. Foundation specifications including embedment depth, concrete dimensions, and rebar layout are provided by Tymetal and must be followed precisely — deviations from the specified foundation can invalidate the crash certification.

Can it integrate with crash-rated gates and barriers of similar rating?

Yes. TYMETAL designs its K4 crash fence to integrate with the TCG-4 cantilever slide gate, TCSG-4 swing gate, and K4 bollard and beam products for a consistently rated perimeter. The post and foundation systems at fence-to-gate transitions are engineered to maintain full crash performance through the connection, eliminating weak points at access openings.

What inspection or refurbishment steps are needed after impact?

Any section of TCF M30 P1 K4 fencing exposed to vehicle impact must be removed from service pending professional inspection of the posts, rail connections, and foundation anchors. Deformed structural members must be replaced per TYMETAL specifications to restore certified performance — field straightening of impacted components is not acceptable.
